- Download and install DisplayCAL.
- Follow the instructions to automatically download things like Argyll and firmwares and whatnots.
- In the setting drop-down choose a setting based on what you're doing:
- If you're making stuff for Web, choose sRGB.
- If you just want to "profile" your monitor choose "Default"
- If you're making stuff for Video choose one of the video options.
- If you're making stuff for print, choose soft proof.
- In the Display & Instrument tab, select your monitor and instrument. Then select LCD mode. (Unless you have a CRT in which case select refresh mode.)
- Press the world button next to the Correction drop-down.
- Select a recent option and press OK. This essentially downloads calibration for your calibrator.
- Change to Calibration tab.
- If you're just profiling your monitor, uncheck "Interactive Display Adjustment"
- Press Calibrate & Profile at bottom.
- In your monitor's OSD, reset your monitor to factory defaults! It's important that the monitor's "contrast" setting is set to the factory default!
- Put calibrator on the moveable window.
- When putting the calibrator on the display, you can tilt the display back (so its facing more towards the ceiling) to have it rest more firmly.
- Press start.
- When interactive display adjustment window opens, wait, and then press start measurement.
- Use monitor's OSD to get the bars in the center. Usually need to find setting like "user" or "custom" color temperature. You can control the brightness with the monitor's backlight or brightness control.
- When the bars are as close to the center as you can get them, Press stop measurement. Then continue to calibration.
- Wait a long time.
- Install display profile when you're done.
